Leaving Religion in Riga

Riga has the relatively easy broader-culture context of a secular country, with active deconstructions concentrated in specific sub-communities. The wider Latvia religious landscape: Religiously mixed — Lutheran, Catholic, Russian Orthodox; large "no religion" cohort especially after Soviet era.

Riga is a mid-sized city — large enough to have at least some non-religious community infrastructure, but small enough that the dominant religious culture still shows up in most public life. You can find your people; it just takes more looking.

Riga is the largest city in Latvia and, as in most countries, the capital city absorbs religious exits more easily than smaller places. The sheer scale means there are other people who have done what you are doing.
