Women
The Turkish Presidency’s Directorate of Communications issued an official statement arguing that the convention had been “hijacked by a group of people attempting to normalize homosexuality – which is incompatible with Türkiye’s social and family values.” According to the Directorate of Communications this was the reason for the country’s decision to withdraw. Some conservatives have claimed that the convention damages family unity and encourages divorce.
