Women’s rights
While personal social freedoms are generally respected in Spain, women still face social disadvantages. During its most recent Universal Periodic Review process at the UN High Commission for Human Rights, a number of treaty bodies expressed concern at the “persistence of entrenched traditional attitudes and stereotypes concerning the roles and responsibilities of women and men in the family and in society”. Religious education classes are provided in religions other than Catholicism in public schools when at least 10 interested students require it.
