Constitution and government
The Constitution and other laws and policies protect freedom of religion or belief, and freedom of expression (Article 30) and assembly (Article 39). The Constitution also emphasizes that provisions pertaining to the rights of citizens shall be interpreted in line with the Universal Declaration on Human Rights and with Covenants and treaties to which Romania is a State Party (which include the ICCPR and ICESCR), giving them precedence should inconsistencies arise (Article 20).
