The Niue Constitution Act 1974, an Act of the New Zealand parliament, established Niue as a democratic self-governing Associate State in free association with New Zealand. The Constitution Act provides protection for fundamental Human Rights. Human rights are generally respected in practice. There is no ban on abortion or laws against blasphemy. There is however a ban on fishing on Sundays.
