Franca has a religiously plural Christian profile — Catholic, Protestant, and Pentecostal communities coexist and the deconstruction story varies by which one you came out of. The wider Brazil religious landscape: Catholic plurality (~50%) but rapidly being overtaken by evangelical/Pentecostal denominations (~31%), substantial Afro-Brazilian religions (Candomblé, Umbanda), and growing "no religion" especially in cities.

At Franca's size, there is usually at least one ex-member group or secular community within reach, but the dominant religious culture is still visible in local politics, school board meetings, and the family networks that run through the biggest congregations in town.

The cost of leaving religion in Franca is higher than in more secular places. Community shunning is normalized in some traditions here, and the person who leaves may find that doors close — socially, professionally, and inside the family — in ways that make the rebuild a serious project rather than a weekend decision.
