Busia has a religiously plural Christian profile — Catholic, Protestant, and Pentecostal communities coexist and the deconstruction story varies by which one you came out of. The wider Uganda religious landscape: Christian majority (~84%, mostly Catholic and Anglican with large Pentecostal growth), Muslim minority (~14%).

In a place the size of Busia, the religious community is often the community. Leaving it means losing the main social infrastructure, and the rebuild usually involves finding support outside town — online groups, occasional trips to the nearest city, and the slow construction of a new social world.

Busia is a notable regional city in Uganda with its own community infrastructure. The exit conversation here may be quieter than in the capital, but it exists.

The cost of leaving religion in Busia is higher than in more secular places. Community shunning is normalized in some traditions here, and the person who leaves may find that doors close — socially, professionally, and inside the family — in ways that make the rebuild a serious project rather than a weekend decision.
