Havana is the largest city in Cuba and, as in most countries, the capital city absorbs religious exits more easily than smaller places. The sheer scale means there are other people who have done what you are doing.

Havana sits in a country where the legal and institutional cost of leaving religion is low. That does not mean it is easy — the family rupture is still real, the guilt still shows up, and the holidays still sting — but the wider society does not punish unbelief in any formal way.
