San Manuel has the architecture of Catholic institutional life visible everywhere, but the personal practice underneath has been thinning for two generations. The wider Honduras religious landscape: Catholic plurality with very large and growing Pentecostal/evangelical movement (Protestant ~41%, Catholic ~37%).

In a place the size of San Manuel, the religious community is often the community. Leaving it means losing the main social infrastructure, and the rebuild usually involves finding support outside town — online groups, occasional trips to the nearest city, and the slow construction of a new social world.
